Protection Status:
- The natural area northwest of the railroad tracks is owned by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources
- 4.67 acres of the state-owned property is dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve
- The railroad right-of-way and south are in private ownership and are designated as Natural Heritage Landmarks
Management Problems:
- The state land continues to be burned and managed
- Plans to include more of the private land in the managed area is underway
- Woody invasion is a primary concern
- Resprouts abundant in 1995
- Cattails well established in 1988
