Census 2000 General Profiles for the 77 Chicago Community Areas from Summary File 1

Only census short-form data came out in 2001, principally in the Summary File 1 (SF1) release that began on a state-by-state flow basis in June.  This file presented selected population and housing characteristics collected from all people and housing units.  Data items available included population by age, race, sex, and Hispanic origin; number and types of households; group quarters population; and whether housing units were owned, rented, or vacant.  Geographic coverage went down to the block level for many SF1 data tabulations, but only down to the census tract for a handful of others.

From this release, Marie Bousfield of the Chicago Planning Department was able to create 3-page summary profiles for each of the 77 community areas delineated in the city of Chicago.  She has graciously made the word processing file containing all 77 profiles available to NIPC to disseminate to the data user community.

NIPC is making the file available to be downloaded in 3 electronic formats:  Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, and Adobe PDF.  Since the file contains 77 profiles and is 231 pages long, the Word and WordPerfect versions have been zipped and will have to be unzipped by the user.  A PDF file with definitions of subject characteristics extracted from the SF1 technical documentation may also be downloaded.
