Chicago, August 4,1999:  Herbert T. Schumann Jr. was elected to the board of the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) at its annual meeting in Monterey, California on June 15, 1999 by the association membership.

Schumann, president of the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC), is also a member of the Cook County Board.   He resides in Palos Heights with his family.

NARC represents the interests of councils of governments, planning commissions, and others engaged in building the regional community.  The association promotes regionwide public/private/civic partnerships as a key strategy in dealing with social, economic, and infrastructure issues in rural and urban areas throughout the United States.

The Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission is the comprehensive planning agency for the six-county metropolitan area. In addition to planning, the agency provides technical and research assistance and reviews state and federal grant requests for local governments.
